Primary & Secondary Audiences

Our Primary and Secondary Audiences

The primary audience we initially are aiming to appeal with this opening sequence is young adults (18-29 year olds) however this does not mean that our secondary audience should not be taken into account. The secondary audience are the people that may exert an influence on the primary audience and so this can be of value to us, we should see this as an advantage and try to also engage with the potential secondary audience. There are many aspects that will be included in our final piece that should also attract an older audience, people in their middle ages, and these are the people that make up our secondary audience. The reasons we believe older adults will also be an audience that we can harness are as follows:
  • The main characters in our media product would be the same age as  the secondary audience and so they would be able to connect with the characters and their story lines, perhaps even a bit better that the younger audience. It becomes engaging for them.
  • The initial primary audience are young adults and so their parents should be the right age to be included in the secondary audience. It is likely that these parents are aware of what their children are interested in and so may come across the TV programs and films they are watching and become interested in them also.
I think that if the secondary audience is also reached with our final media product then it is successful. This is because stereo-typically thriller films do not appeal to an older audience, like i previously mentioned when researching for the target market. This shows that if the opening sequence does appeal to them and it is received positively then we have defied a convention of the thriller genre and challenged it. Our final media product will have attracted a broad audience where a wide range of people are likely to watch it. This is a good element to have achieved.
